Diary of a Home Baker

Monday – Today I went to work. When I got off I went straight home and gathered my two oldest boys for their daily homeschool lessons. As they sit at the kitchen table learning to read and write I am over by the stove making my banana nut bread and pumpkin bread for Saturday’s Farmers Market in our local town (which was just voted #1 in our state!) Once the boys are done with their work they run off to play with the twins and I begin cooking dinner. As soon as Cam gets home to eat we will head out to the hayfield, and we won’t be home before dark.

Tuesday – Today I went to work. When I got off I went straight home and gathered Sam and Braxton for more school. While the are doing their work I am back in the kitchen baking my two best selling cookies (Chocolate Chip and my own creation known locally as the Red Dirt Road Cookie). Once the cookies are done and the boys go off to watch tv with Amelia and Alex I start cooking dinner. Once we are through eating it is back to the hayfield once more.

Wednesday – Today I went to work. When I got off I went straight home and gathered Sam and Braxton for more school. While the are doing their work I am back in the kitchen baking two more cookies. My Lemon Sugar Cookies and Cinnamon Orange Cookies. Cinnamon Orange Cookies are my favorite. They taste like Apple Jacks cereal. Luckily tonight we have no babysitter so I get to stay home while Cam goes to the hayfield. This will give me time to do the three loads of laundry that I have been putting off doing.

Thursday – Today I went to work. When I got off I went straight home and gathered Sam and Braxton for more school. While the are doing their work I am back in the kitchen baking Peanut Butter Cookies, Triple Chocolate Cookies and my Spicy Ranch Crackers (a popular sell out item at the farmer’s market along with my canned habanero salsa).

Friday – The kids have worked so hard that I usually give them a three day week. Now is my busy day-before-the-market day. I make three different kinds of cobblers. Package and label all of my cookies. Load all of my jellies, Salsas, and pickles and then pray that I will have a good day at the market tomorrow after all the work I have gone through this past week.

Saturday – Wake up before 6, leave house by 6:15. Get to the market an hour early to make sure my spot is open only to find that someone has parked in it once again. Find a new spot and set everything up and hope my customers can find me. Four hours later as we pack up I am happy that another week we were successful as well as the other vendors at our market. Shop local, help local.

For 13 years I was a single mother until I married my handsome husband. Fast forward five years and we have added 3 sons and a daughter to our household. With all those kids I rarely have time to myself but my love of writing will always find a way. I have written books in the past. My range of genres is from romance novels to nonfiction historical, poetry, and children's books. I am currently working on a mystery book that should be a very exciting read I hope! I also love genealogy and have created my own forms which I will post later for people to download to use. I hope you enjoy my writings and recipes that I plan on sharing with you here.
