


James Hudson Shoults was born on 04 April, 1849, in Missouri. His parents were George Shoults and his third wife, Lucinda.
James was born in Jefferson County, Missouri in 1849, the 6th child of George and 4th child of Lucinda. The Shoults family removed from Jefferson County to Cistern, Texas around 1860.
The 1870 Fayette County, Texas Census lists the Shoults family living between Halletsville Road and Buckners Creek. At the time of the census James’s father George was 58, George’s wife Lucinda was 48, James 21, Victorine 18 (female), Henrietta 13 (female), and Louisiana 10 (female).
On February 2nd 1876, James married Joanna Burleson House, widow of George W House, in Fayette, Texas. From this marriage there are two known children; Laura V Shoults, born in 1877, and Marilda Ann Shoults, born in 1882.
They moved from Fayette, Texas sometime between 1880 and 1900. James and his family was found in Sulphur Springs, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, in the 1900 census where they rented a farm. in 1910, James is showing to own his own home in Murray County, Oklahoma and was a day laborer of odd jobs.
In 1915, James wife Joanna, passed away and was buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, in Sulphur, Oklahoma. After her death, James moved to Garvin County, Oklahoma around 1930, to be near their daughter Marilda, who was married to Joseph Elzie Cottrell.

James died in Wynnewood, Garvin County, Oklahoma on October 30, 1932. He was 83 years old. He is buried by family members in the Lewis Cemetery, in Pauls Valley, Garvin County, Oklahoma.
