Well, it’s happened again. Another Monday is upon us, and we are all thinking the same thing. That bed is just too comfortable, and the weekend was just too short. Everyone suffers the Monday morning blues sometimes. Monday is what sets the tone for the whole week, so how about fixing how your week will go before walking out that door on Monday.
I work in the mental health field, and I can promise you that the week always has surprises, both good and bad. After thirteen years in the field, I found myself dragging on Monday, not wanting to go to work and face the stress of the week. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and everyone I work with and for, it’s just that sometimes it can wear a person down.

That’s when I decided I needed to work on my own mental health and mindset. I found that when I started the week with less energy and drive that the week would drag, so I decided I would talk to my counselor comrades and see what they suggested I do. That was when I learned the secret. On Monday mornings when I get out of bed, instead of moan and groan about the week, I tell myself that this was going to be a good week and we were going to help people. I know it sounds silly, but it actually works.
If my day goes bad I have learned to let it go when I leave work. I have found a spot in the road (for me its the bridge halfway between work and home) and once I pass that spot I tell myself to leave my worry at the bridge. If it’s something that I need to work on I will pick it up there on the way back to work in the morning.

This was another thing I thought was rather silly at first, but honestly it works great and my husband loves that I come home in a good mood instead of complaining about work all the time (now if I can only get him to do the same thing, lol).
Now that you know how I cope with the start of the week, I’m curious to know what other people do to make the work week less painful. Let me know in the comments below!
